If you are in the market looking for a web based time sheet software then you need to consider certain aspects or key features like:

While searching for a web based time sheet software, you need to look for a solution that will offer you interactive reporting. Interactive reporting will help you to choose and customize your reports from over hundreds of predefined reports.

High-end time sheet software will ensure that there is an easy transfer of data. You should also be able to integrate the time sheet software with MS Accounting, QuickBooks, Peachtree and any other or similar software.

The software should have functionality for creating rules that will help you to check the validity of your timesheet as well as expenses prior to submission.

Look for a software that has a built in approval routing. Basically this function will allow you to select a number of pre-defined or even manual routes for web based timesheet as well as expense approval.

Your web based software should be able to manage reimbursements with ease. Managing reimbursements is an integral process and provides an insight into advances provided to employees and any type of payment of expenses.

Ensure that your the software offers automatic e-mail notification. Using the timesheet software you can always set up email notification time or date related to approval of expenses, submission of expenses, as well as rejection.

There are several advantages of using web based time sheet software apart from the fact that it will offer you multiple functionalities for handing and managing time and expenses. One of the most important factors that have led to the popularity of the software is its value for money. It ensures that you derive a high benefit with a lower cost of adoption and in layman’s language this means higher ROI (return on investment).

One of the salient aspects of using web based time sheet software is that you can use it anywhere and anytime. The accessibility makes the software a high-end solution. Being a web based software; all you would require is a laptop / computer and internet. You can work from home, airport, in-transit, another country and just about anywhere. This will save you time and you can transfer and manage data while on the move.

It is easy to use, self-explanatory, and ensures that all information entered in the time sheet is secure and can be accessed only at different user levels.

There are several other applications for web timesheet software, many of which can be customized to the specific needs of a business. Traveling employees can log expenses into the database for reimbursement checks. Sick time, personal time and vacation time can be tracked and approved through many programs. Others offer analytics that will help management make decisions about scheduling, projects and employee tasks. Other expenses and statistics may be access through information that is entered into the system, as well. Companies should look for the most inclusive software that will integrate other business metrics into their time tracking, to further simplify their business practices.

Though there are many different options for employee time tracking and management, businesses should consider the possibilities of the future when selecting a new platform. Look for a software solution that will grow alongside your business and that will be applicable when new positions are created outside the confines of the main office. Add to this some extra features that will create greater productivity and profitability for your business and you will find that your timesheet software will do much more than create your payroll. With web based time and attendance software, you can expand your business and simplify your daily tasks, all with one software solution.

We’ve formulated the plan to turn our internal task tracker into Intervals. Intervals will be web based task and time management. We tried a lot of different products and none of them fit our process so we created our “task tracker” in 2003 as a proof of concept. The proof of concept has been very successful and increased our billing by over 30% the first quarter we used it. There are tons of products in this “labor time management”, “project management”, “time tracking” space, but most fail in execution. We feel there are three distinct types of products in this space:

1. Timesheet management
2. Project Management
3. Monstrous beasts that try to do everything and fail miserably

Intervals is an “accountability” tool that has Tasks and Time at it’s heart…since that’s the front lines where work gets done. It allows you to keep track of where you are spending your time. The tracking time part is very easy…just start a timer whenever you start a task. Intervals sends email reminders and will nag to keep tasks on track and timesheets submitted.

Opportunity cost is ignored because the lack of a time tracking system leads to the lack of understanding of per-person per-project profitability. There is one most profitable thing that a particular employee can be doing right now for the company. Building an in-house time tracking, CRM or issue management system is almost certainly not it. If you haven’t been measuring costs (i.e. tracking time) you can’t possibly know where you’re profitable and where you’re not.

This is true today, but it wasn’t true when we first built Intervals. Today, there are so many options available that it makes sense to try them all until you find one that is the closest fit for your needs. When we started building Intervals, however, there weren’t any web-based services that allowed a business to track time against projects and tasks. Applications of this sort are relatively new on the scene, and many of them are evolving from basic time-tracking services into more comprehensive apps that also do invoicing and reporting. Don’t waste your time building your own system. Find one that is a close fit, and then become an active member of its community, where you can influence the developers to build the features you need.

Once, We reached a ponit a few years ago where our frustrations with paper timesheets and excel spreadsheets were becoming unbearable, and the web was maturing into a medium that could handle more advanced web-based applications. The advent of the lightweight framework gave us an opportunity as a web development agency to escape the linear clutches of traditional development. That is when we developed a web-based time tracking service, which we dubbed Intervals. For those still tracking their time using paper timesheets or Excel spreadsheets, I highly recommend abandoning those methods in favor of using a web based punch clock.

* Our billable time increased by 30% after adapting web-based time tracking into our day-to-day workflow. That is a lot of time that just wasn’t getting tracked before.
* Track your time at any time from anywhere, using multiple web-based timers.
* Keep track of multiple projects at once, making it easier to switch between them without losing time.
* Ten times easier to generate detailed reports and send client invoices.
* Accessible with Windows, Mac, or Linux.
* Data is tracked in real-time; no more weekly data entry.

We have a brand-new help system in Labor time tracker recently.  This is something we have been planning for a long time: a better help system for you to find your answer easier and faster way to understand web based timecard.

Some design decisions we made when building the new help system:

* We list out all questions on one page (versus having to click into each section to ‘read more’).  You can quickly scan the page, or do a page search for certain phrases.
* Each pair of question and answer lives on a page with other Q&As (versus each question getting its own page).  If you do not find your answer, you might be able to find it in a neighbor, related question.  Or you might scan the page and see a question that might interest you and learn something new about Harvest.
* There is also a search box for you to look up certain keywords or phrases.  Nothing fancy – just a quick search through all the questions and answers in our database.

You’ll also notice that there is a new contact form. It used to be that you can email Support directly, but sometimes our customers do not provide us with enough information, and there would be a couple of back-and-forth messages for us to gather enough data to diagnose the problem.  With the new contact form, the message will include some crucial data from your account, so when we receive the email we should have enough info to quickly diagnose the problem – which means faster response to your questions.
